Summerspeak 2019 Program Information
What Is Summerspeak?
Summerspeak is a small, friendly, unique, family oriented program held in the summer by two warm caring speech-language pathologists who have specialized in stuttering therapy for more than 25 years.
Developing Fluency Skills
Summerspeak incorporates the best practices in fluency therapy, from the highly regarded Australian Lidcombe and Camperdown programs to the development of meta-cognitive skills and mindfulness. Parents learn to provide positive and specific feedback and to support their child as they move forward in developing fluent speech patterns.
Summerspeak, established in 1989 to provide stuttering therapy in Metro Vancouver, provides intensive treatment in a group setting, with a focus on developing fluent speaking skills. Involvement in the intensive program enables individuals to practice new skills in a variety of natural speaking situations before returning to the demands of everyday communication situations. Clinical experience and current research have shown that intensive programs are very effective for children who stutter, especially when follow-up is available.
Summerspeak’s principal speech-language pathologists, Sandra Collins and Carol Westdal, are Registrants of CSHHPBC (College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals of British Columbia) and members of SAC and Speech & Hearing BC.
